Metalwork Day Course:
1-4 people
Metalwork is such a broad subject and there are so many skills to learn. We have a very broad experience and range of equipment from 18 years fabricating for the creative industry. We would love to pass on some of these skills, from TIG welding to tube bending.
Are you an architect, designer or artist that is outsourcing metalwork? We have a course that will broaden your knowledge of processes and materials and give you more control over your project. There are many nuances to some processes and specifications that will affect the end result and we would love to pass on everything we have learnt - surface finishes, tolerances, designing around distortion, etc etc.
Would you like to come and spend a day making something to take home? Making things with your friends and colleagues is incredibly fun and you’ll be surprised by what you can achieve. You’ll be able to make a piece of homeware or simple furniture to a high standard to take away with you.
Are you a fabricator with a particular skill you’d like to develop? We would love to help. We’ve been honing our skills for 18 years and feel we have perfected a few processes that we would love to pass on. Would you like to weld sinks into stainless worktops or make aluminium picture frames for example? There are some tips and tricks that we think could help.
Our teaching ethosWe are incredibly passionate about metalwork and helping others develop their knowledge. These skills are very attainable and only require practice, friendly guidance and a safe environment to give it a go.
Your requirements will be unique so we prefer to create a course that is individual to you and your team.

Yes, we have set a fixed price of £450+vat that hopefully reflects good value whether that is 1-to-1 tuition or learning as a group.
A 1-to-1 course will enable a very tailored and intense day or learning, while a group course allows more people to benefit.
-
I believe that the best course will be one that is tailored to your needs and previous experience. I would like to prioritise the processes and skills that suit your plans and ambitions - For example, some students have a particular project and skill in mind, while others are architects looking for a broader knowledge base to empower their designs and outsourcing.
-
The best way is for us to have a quick chat and discuss your previous experience and what your plans are - If you don’t have a particular plan, that’s great too - I can suggest a fun day of trying new equipment and making things.
This is simpler if it’s one-on-one, but I can also speak to everyone in a group and try to meet everyone’s needs.
Once we’ve had a chat I will put together an outline for the day for you.
We can also be incredibly flexible on the day, jumping between equipment as it suits.
-
The simple answer is; yes, I’d love to help you do that while explaining the decision making and processes along the way.
This kind of day can require more planning and maybe ordering some materials. We may need to manage expectations a little depending on how ambitions the project is.
An example could be - Welding a sink into a stainless worktop - We could pre-order a sink and worktop for the day and I’ll then teach you how to weld and finish it. I’d be keen to hear your ideas.
-
The workshop is in a lovely spot on an old RAF air base - 25 minutes north of Norwich - Scottow Enterprise Park.
This can be a bit of a journey from London (1:50h on the train to Norwich) so you may prefer to stay locally the day before.
Please get in touch and we can recommend some accommodation that suits.
-
We provide PPE for guests when using the equipment but we expect you to wear sturdy footwear (steel toe is not needed) and clothing that isn’t precious - Long sleeves and trousers are essential.
We provide lots of tea, coffee and biscuits but please bring some lunch. Otherwise lunch can be purchased from the site cafe nearby if needed - Javabean.
There is a communal kitchen and outside benches.
-
I’m incredibly keen to help everyone get involved with metalwork and will do everything I can to ensure each student has the same access. We can lower tables, add supports, reduce noise - and anything else we need to make your day enjoyable and inclusive. If you are comfortable, please let me know in advance so I can plan the space for you where needed.
-
We have a huge stock of materials on the shelf ready for experiment and play. To a reasonable level, these are all included in the costs of the course. This will enable you to test all the broad processes we are equipped for.
If you have more particular requirements and ideas, we may need to order in material - This would be an additional cost. It is essential that you let us know with 2 weeks notice please.
-
We only allow changes up to 7 days before a class so we can plan work and materials. Please let us know as soon as you can.

“Thank you so much for the ‘Metalwork for Designers’ course which was so comprehensive and super useful. It has definitely given us loads to think about in terms of how we detail up and specify the things we design, and armed us with some top insider fabrication knowledge.
